Poor quality water and sanitation are a major problem in Western Zambia causing unnecessary death, Ill health and restricting development. Village Water has already demonstrated success in addressing these issues and now needs to do more. An intrepid team of oarsmen and women rowed 1000km down the Zambezi in August 2011 to raise awareness and, more importantly, money for this crucial cause. The expedition travelled from the far NW border with Angola to Victoria Falls; the team funded this from their own pocket and with existing sponsorship. On reaching Victoria Falls the Row Zambezi Expedition donated the boats and equipment to the Zambian Amateur Rowing Association. They are determined to continue raising a matching sum of money, and hopefully more, to go direct to Village Water. |
